Description - This captivating late Victorian gold fringe pendant Circa 1880-1900, is a wonderful individual survivor from an era renowned for richly detailed & beautifully handcrafted jewellery.
At its centre sits a petite oval cabochon opal approx 2.80mm x 2.0mm displaying flashes of green as it catches the light.
Surrounding the opal are four round cut natural sapphires approx 0.08ct combined their unusual pinkish -red colour providing a striking contrast against the warm antique gold.
The workmanship is particularly lovely . Delicate white enamel lattice work accents with dark blue enamel detailing encircles the central jewel set section, while applied gold beadwork and a fine twisted border dd wonderful texture & depth.
Suspended beneath is an exquisite articulated gold fringe or tassel, formed from fine interlinked sections terminating in long tapered drops.
The movement of the fringe brings the pendant beautifully to life when worn & is quintessentially Victorian in character.
Adding further interest is its unusual multi carat construction.
Professionally XRF tested, the principal pendant is 11 carat gold, the bale 9ct yellow gold, and the elaborate fringe/tassel section is in 15ct yellow gold, a fascinating feature of this antique jewel.
An enchanting and increasingly difficult to find piece of late Victorian jewellery, wonderfully feminine unmistakably antique & entirely unique.
The pendant is in lovely condition, there are two of the hand engraved stars that the enamel has worn away this dent effect the look of this delightful Victorian piece.
