Description - A superb and increasingly difficult to find example of one of " Movado's " most ingenious Art Deco creations. This is the celebrated " Ermeto purse or travelling watch ", presented in a beautifully engine turned solid 18ct yellow gold case.

Dating to the late 20's this remarkable Swiss made watch combines elegant Art Deco styling with the innovative patented mechanism for which " Ermeto" became famous.

Unlike a conventional pocket watch , the " Ermeto" was designed with a protective sliding outer case .

As the two sections are drawn apart, the dial is revealed and the ingenious mechanism assists in winding the movement, a wonderfully clever piece of early 20th century Swiss watchmaking.

The inner case is appropriately marked " Patent - Siss Made - Fab . Suisse " identifying its Swiss manufacture and patented design.

Of particular interest is the G.S. importer's mark , associated with George Stockwell/ Stockwell & Co. Ltd. of London, a prominent importer of Swiss watches and jewellery in Britain.

The watch also carries British 18ct gold import hallmarks, providing an important link between its Swiss manufacture and sale into the British market.

The watch has a manual movement & is in running condition.

The dial is rectangular cream colour and has raised gold Arabic numerals 

The case measures 42mm x 24mm  & is numbered 2319 & weighs including the movement - 44.38 grams.

The substantial 18ct gold case features beautifully executed linear engine turning typical of the sophisticated geometric styling of the Art Deco period .

Despite its age the detailing remains, wonderfully evident and the watch presents with the character expected of a genuine period piece, rather than a modern reproduction.

The cream face of the watch has a couple of fine small marks, but other than that this rare timepiece is in beautiful condition.
