Description - A wonderful Antique Sovereign Case, & Book Chain Necklet crafted in sterling silver.
The Hand engraved silver necklace came with the sovereign case so I am selling them together .
The plain smooth sterling silver Sovereign case was assayed in 1887 in Birmingham, the maker being One Max Steyerman registered in 1877, watch manufacturer, silversmith Holborn Viaduct London, & Vyse St Birmingham.
It carries crisp hallmarks on the inside cover & the date letter & lion passant repeated again on the edge of the inner case . The spring mechanism works properly as it should, the release to open & close is quite stiff but opens & closes securely.
It is overall in very good condition, there is one small rub / wear mark on the lower edge of the outer cover of the sovereign case, not obvious.
The book chain is a lovely piece beautifully hand engraved flowers, & foliage feature as well as embossed Religious Crosses feature along the whole length, which is 43cm long & 8mm approx at the widest point.
There are two large connector rings which the sovereign case is suspended from, but it actually is missing the third ring that they generally have, it works as it is & I've taken this into consideration in the pricing.
The Book chain doesn't carry hallmarks but it is silver & dates to Circa 1880's - 1890's.
Wonderful treasures from the Victorian period, they are both in lovely condition, beautiful craftsmanship , very special pieces to wear & add to an antique jewellery collection.
