Description - An absolutely beautiful Antique Snuff Box, Carrying the German hallmark for 900 silver on the underside of the hinged lid.

We believe it to be Circa / 1885. I purchased this wonderful snuff box on a recent trip to France.

The snuff box measures 55mm x 33.85 x 13.01mm deep approx.

This little silver box has the most incredible repoussé detail, completely covering the whole exterior

" Repoussé" a French word meaning " pushed back'

A highly skilled silversmith would manipulate the silver metal from the underside, to push out a beautiful design.

This stunning antique example has raised  detailed flowers, scrolls, a blank cartouche to the centre lid which could easily be engraved & a delicate crisscross pattern in the background.

The inside of the snuff box was originally gold gilded it has faded a little over its lifetime.

This is an exceptional piece of German Antique silver, a wonderful example of the incredible skills of the early silversmith.
