Edwardian Era With Rare Mouse Finial.
Description - An exquisitely unusual & character filled antique Fob pendant dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.
This antique fob pendant is beautifully crafted in warm 9ct rose gold and set with a finely polished nephrite jade drop. The hanger has an impressed mark for 9ct gold & the cap has been tested & is genuine as described.
This elegant piece is distinguished by its finely hand engraved gold mount, adorned with delicate scrolling foliate work with the original screw set construction securing the jade, a lovely quality piece.
There is also a blank cartouche on one side which could easily be engraved.
The cap is surmounted by a charming & rare miniature mouse / rat rendered in gold , a whimsical & highly collectable detail seldom encountered in fob jewellery of this period.
The jade itself display a deep green tone with natural inclusions , tapering gracefully to form a substantial & tactile drop .
Nephrite Jade was highly regarded in the Edwardian era, prized for its strength , symbolism & enduring beauty.
This would have originally been worn as a gentleman's watch fob on an Albert Chain , this piece has transitioned effortlessly into a striking pendant.
The mouse / rat an uncommon motif in antique jewellery but it is traditionally associated with resourcefulness, quiet intelligence & adaptability, which adds a layer of personality & intrigue to this already distinctive piece.
