Description - Sweet Antique Dormeuse Style Earrings, crafted in 14/15ct Rose Gold.
" Dormeuse " is French for sleepers , from the 1860's onward this Style of earring became increasingly popular.
We believe this beautiful antique earrings date to Circa 1870's early 1880's.
Initially designed as a single drop attached to a curving ear wire with a simple leaver back style mechanism , this design was very different from the pendant & Girandole style earrings of the previous decades.
The earrings are 14 to 15ct rose gold, lever back style featuring rose cut natural diamonds with a champagne to light brown colour & I2-13 clarity. The rose cut diamonds are bezel set & have closed backs, very common during this period. The Rose cut diamonds measures 3.13mm x 3.31mm each, the depth measurement is not permitted by closed back settings.
The lever backs are hinges are strong & open & close securely
Beautiful earrings, a wonderful pair to add to an Antique Jewellery collection, not often seen in the market place.
The valuation is from September 2024, gold prices & antique jewellery has risen significantly since then.
I believe you would be hard pressed to find a pair of these original antique " Dormeaus" style earrings at my asking price.
