Description - An Exceptional Antique Festoon Brooch by the Norwegian Craftsman Jeweller Marius Hammer. 1847 - 1927
Marius Hamer established his own workshop in Bergen in 1871, from around 1880 he specialised in Modern versions of Traditional Norwegian Jewellery as well as plaque - à- jour enamel work.
This stunning brooch is a wonderful example of his outstanding craftsmanship.
The brooch dates to Circa 1890- 1900 it carries Marius Hamer's Maker's mark to the verso along with the silver mark 830S.
The brooch measures 72mm from top to bottom & 37mm at widest point.
It is a very detailed piece, featuring gorgeous filigree & bead style work & the most exquisite enamelling in white & a rich emerald green.
The silver has been completely gold washed ( also known a a gold vermeil wash) both the gold wash and enamel are in wonderful condition.
This stunning brooch has been very well looked after.
The verso has a pin & early C clasp which works as it should.
This is an exceptional piece of early jewellery history that is well preserved & was crafted by a highly skilled artisan.
Today you can view Marius Hammer pieces throughout museum around the world.
