Description - A wonderful Mid-Century Musical  Manicure Set by Ruege , Switzerland , It plays " Tonight " from West Side Story.

The original Broadway stage musical premiered in September, 1957,  & the original film adaption was released in the US in Oct 1961.

It was a massive box office hit going on to win ten academy awards.

An enchanting and highly collectable mid-century musical manicure set beautifully presented in its original fitted case and incorporating a fine Swiss movement by the esteemed maker Ruege.

Opening the elegant clam-form case, reveals a charming ballerina figure poised before a mirror, surrounded by a complete suite of precision manicure instruments.

Six of the eight instruments were made in Germany & four pieces are fitted with sculptural faceted lucite handles, a hallmark of quality Mid-century design.

The lucite catches & reflects the light beautifully , lending both glamour & refinement to the set.

The case interior is lined in white satin & a quality felt, while the integrated Swiss musical moment plays the romantic melody from West Side Story, one of the most iconic musical themes of the 20th century.

Ruege was founded in Switzerland in 1865 & is internationally respected for producing some of the finest mechanical musical movements, prized for their clarity, longevity & craftsmanship.

This piece embodies the elegance and optimism of the post-war era, when personal grooming objects were elevated to objects of Beauty & enjoyment .

The case is 27.3cm wide & approx 5.7cm deep when closed.

This set is in wonderful condition, there is a very small tear (wear) to the white satin of the case at the back where the hinge is set for the lid & a couple of tiny wear marks to the white lining in the lid, but overall this presents beautifully & the mechanism works & plays as it should, when you use the winder at the bottom of the case..

A Rare & evocative piece both decorative & functional , perfect for the collector or as an exceptional dressing table centre piece.
